Synthesis, characterization and the fluorescent enhancement mechanism of bonded poly(Eu(TTA)(2)(phen)MAA-co-VA) nanofibers by electrospinning

A novel bonded phosphor poly(Eu(TTA)(2)(phen)MAA-co-VA) (Eu-PVA, for short) was prepared employing the technology of coordination-polymerization-alcoholysis. The bonded Eu-PVA fluorescent nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning, having the initial decomposition temperature of 290 degrees C higher 51 degrees C than that of the doped nanofibers. A relationship is established between the fiber morphology and the fluorescence intensity of the bonded fiber Eu-PVA, predicting fluorescence quenching according to the morphological evolution. Compared with the corresponding fluorescent phosphors, both doped and bonded fluorescent fibers exhibit obvious fluorescence enhancement effects in that nanofibrosis increase the specific surface of the fibers and decrease the diffuse reflection and the light loss owing to the smoother surface of the fibers than that of the phosphors. Furthermore, security paper with both masking and security has been fabricated applying the bonded fluorescent nanofibers into pulp, being extended to the development of banknotes, bills, and securities.
