Transparent conductors (TCs) have applications in numerous electronic and optoelectronic devices and are commonly ranked by a parameter known as figure of merit (FoM). In this study, TCs from copper networks are prepared by a combination of electrospinning and DC-magnetron sputtering and their performance is evaluated and compared by conventional FoMs. Also, the novel concept of application-oriented' FoM is introduced and accordingly a new FoM is defined. This FoM is based on the fundamental requirements of transparency, conductivity and flexibility; each represented in terms of optical transmittance, sheet resistance and the new parameter threshold bending radius', respectively. The proposed FoM identifies TCs with improper, optimum and over-qualified performance for a desired application. It is shown that this FoM is a more justified criterion for rating TCs for practical means compared to previously defined FoMs.
