Synthesis and Characterization of Tungsten Oxide Nanoscaled Fibers

This current work demonstrates a simple route for formation tungsten oxide (WO3) nanofibers. Tungsten oxide is a good semiconductor, and its synthesis is neither challenging nor high priced. Then we used the electrospinning method with the solution to get fibers. The tungsten oxide nanofibers were synthesized by the electrospun ammonium metatungstate (AMT) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) composite fibers. These fibers were heated at 500 degrees C for 3 hours. The 500-650 nm thick and tens of micrometer long PVP/AMT fibers decomposed thermally in oxygen, and pure monoclinic WO3 nanoscaled fiber. Various analytical technique were used to characterize these fibers. The synthesized electrospun nanofibres were characterized by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The SEM results showed that the WO3 nanoscaled fibers have uniform surface morphology and their diameters ranging from 90 nm to 120 nm. The SEM images clearly showed the shape of nanoscaled fiber. The large specific surface area of the WO3 having nanofibers shape can be beneficial for some utilization for example as sensor function and photocatalyst.
