Micro/nanofibres can provide outstanding biological activity in tissue regeneration. However, their use as a biomedical scaffold has been limited due to difficulty of three-dimensional (3D) shapability, small pore size, and weak mechanical properties. In this study, we suggest a facile method of fabricating mechanically enhanced 3D polycaprolactone (PCL)/beta-TCP micro/nanofibres with homogeneous micropores using modified wet-electrospinning supplemented with a femtosecond laser. The fabricated scaffolds demonstrated improved mechanical properties and relatively high cellular activities compared to rapid-prototyped 3D PCL/beta-TCP scaffolds. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V.
