To prepare uniform nanofibers from a poly(2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propane sulfonic acid) (PMAPS)/ethanol/water mixture, a voltage of 17 kV across a distance of 15 cm between the tip and grounded collector was applied while keeping all other experimental parameters constant. We have been able to produce uniform nanofibers at 6 wt% concentrations of PAMPS/ethanol/water solutions, and we have confirmed that an electric current applied during electrospinning affects the fiber morphology. The effect of the electric current during electrospinning was investigated using a field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) and a digital multi-meter. (C) 2004 Acta Materialia, Inc.
